Finally I got one done. Well, almost, anyway.
Well, today I finally finished one of five of my aviation paintings I've had in various stages of completion over the last three years. I take that back. I've almost completed it. It's an 18 x 24" oil on canvas board. Looking at this digital pic I just took of it, I see a couple more things that I want to tweak, like the sunlight on the top left side of the helmet. And maybe a little more work on his left eye. Hey, if anybody recognizes this guy, wouldja please tell him I painted a picture of him for me? I hear he hangs out in or around Red Hook, New York.
Criticisms welcome! The paint's still wet and workable. Fire away.

Leader- That is really great. I love the recent dueling scar or is it a bullet scar? From the look on his face, I hope he is getting ready to take off. If he has just landed, I would not want to be his mechanic or batman. What aircraft is he flying?

What- no bugs in his teeth? Seriously- good stuff. The glint off his nose meat is worth the price of admission all by itself. Don't overwork it!

Black Baron?
Could it be D.K. as the Black Baron? GREAT image, MASTERFUL painting, Robert K is very smart to suggest that you not overwork it, AAC Cadet Leader. Wow, you're an artist! You should open a studio and gallery, and do a whole series of early aviator portrait paintings.
Best,
cfgray

Such raw emotion! He looks like he's come back from a difficult mission. I think the guy you painted would be very pleased if he sees this painting. Please post your other paintings as you finish them. Thanks, AAC Cadet Leader!

AAC, thats SUPER!! What medium is it?
BTW, that is Dave King. Ironically, I also used him as a model for a piece a few years ago:

For mine, I made some changes to his face - mainly taking away the goatee and removing the theatrical makeup. I think yours shows a little more raw emotion than mine. Great job!

VERY nice work! Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
That 's one angry pilot, I'd hate to encounter him in the air.
