All those monoplanes look alike....

An interesting link, claiming that Fokker may have based his E.I on an earlier design by a Frenchman, Charles Boutard.

http://www.geocities.com/heidoscop/melli_besse.htm

Anyone have more details regarding this claim?

Just great. It appears I have a link going no where in particular. For those interested do a search for Melli Beese and click on the link with the web address given above. You will find a photo of a model of an aircraft I.D'ed as an MB-Boutard Monoplace. It may not be the E.I's twin but it is a brother with a strong resemblance.

There are really a limited number of variations available for a mid-wing tractor monoplane of that era.

The model resembles a Morane-Saulnier H as much as it does a Fokker. Or, for that matter, a Nieuport 4M.

I wouldn't make overly much of the similarities.
