The AWM site is comprehensice and easy to navigate. If you click on RAF Organisation, you will see something that surprised me when I first read it. According to Cutlack, it was the pilot who tapped out the zone calls, not the observer, the latter preoccupied with keeping an eye out for enemy scouts. For those with an interest in the photography equipment used, there's a paragraph that describes the equipment and its function,
