Can't find French town of "Gercourt"

Ltn Buchner of Jasta 13 is said to have shot down Lt A Nutt of the 94th Aero on 6pm on 26 Sept, 1918 over a French town called "Gercourt."

My maps list no such town... can anyone with better maps jump in and help? Many thanks.

HA! Found it purely by accident... its so small it wasn't listed in the town index.

Actually, its just south of Dun sur Meuse.

Which is good... I needed it to be there.

Hi Stephen -

I have Nutt falling at Drillancourt. Is Gercourt nearby ?

I also have a letter from Alden Sherry, who was with Alan on that flight, to Nutt's parents describing the incident in which he specifically says He fell close by the ruined village of Drillancourt, just north of the Bois de Forges, about fifteen kilometers north-west of Verdun and about four west of the Muese River.
and where he was buried (initally) He (Captain Hall of the 132nd MG Battallion - MJO)detailed six men to help me bury him, which we did on the western end of the Bois de Forges about a mile and a half from the spot where he fell. It was impossible to finds a chaplain to conduct services, but we did fire three volleys over his grave

Could just be a naming issue.

Nutt was from Cliffside Park, NJ. His older brother Henry was with the 99th Aero and later CO of the 155th.

Hi Mike;

Yup, Drillancourt is literally down the road from Gercourt. And the forest borders the south edge of Drillancourt, which leads us to believe that Gercourt was a general fix, and Nutt actually fell just north of Drillancourt and then Sherry's crew took him to the nearest scenic area for burial. That must have been south of Cuisy, which lies at the west end of the woods.

Thanks for that bit of information... its more important than I can explain here but its appreciated. BTW, I've had a couple of big breakthroughs in research lately. I'll have to catch you up sometime. *
