Flieger Götz of Kampfstaffel 5 of the BAO or Kagohl I

Hi,

I recently did get two postcards, one stamped on the 4th March 1916 with a stamp of Kampfstaffel 5 OHL (a view of Ostend) and another one from the 6th December 1915 (a view from Ypres) with a stamp of the Brieftauben Abteilung O. They were written by a certain Götz to his sister Salomé Götz at Erdmannsweiler - Post Königsfeld at Baden.
I did not find the man in my personnel list of the unit (pilots and observers) and I think he had the rank of Gefreiter. On the other postcard he mentions Flieger Götz. Does anyone know more on him ?

Thanks and best from Johan

That is a hard nut because Götz is surely a soldier of the ground personnel -even worse the name is very common. Sorry!

Hi Rammjäger,

It probably is indeed a hard case, but well, one never knows, and anyway they are two great items for my collection and the future book...

Thanks and best from Johan

Johann, I agree, probably ground crew. For interest, BAO was renamed KG 1 on 20Dec15, so both dates of the letters make sense. Sounds like he got promoted in between. Any idea of his first name? R.

Hi

This is a long shot, but I have a Vfw x Götze (P) who served in Kasta 5 during 1916 and later joined Schusta 21...

Hi,

I think his first name may be Willi or Willo after taking a good close look at both cards.

Thanks Gunnar and Rick !

Best from Johan
