Hi, I'm working on my 3D model Albatros CV/16 and am about to start replacing the cruder bits that I've used to lay things out with more accurate parts. I have the Windsock and a few original photos to work from but there are one or two areas that I'm a little unclear about and I was wondering if anyone has any information on these, or can point me in the right direction so that I can find them myself:
1. Observer' s Parabellum machine gun and (especially) the mounting. I have several clear photos of the parabellum, but I'm having difficulty figuring out what's going on around the ammunition drum. I'm even more confused about how the gun was mounted to the ring. Are there scale drawings of these items anywhere?
2. Wheel axle. If I understand it right the claw brake is attached to the axle and there's another smaller bar running in front of it that prevents the brake from bouncing forward. The bit that I can't quite see from either the datafile or my photos is the part where the axle joins the wheel. It seems to be lashed to the frame, and has what might be a spring curling around the spar. Can anyone explain what's going on here?
3. The cockpit. The datafile has some pretty good photos of the cockpit of a modifed CV. Are there any clearer descriptions of what's going on, drawings or whatever - preferably explaining which instruments are which. I realise that this might be unlikely, in which case are there similar drawings/photos for later Albatros C types (esp.CVII) that share any features?
4. Im going to use the model for two purposes, as a way of providing profiles for the planes of which I have photos and also so that people with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 can fly it around. To get basic flight dynamics I need a combination of the geometry and some engine information. The geometry isn't a problem, but can anyone provide the following information for the 220hp Mercedes DIV engine: cylinder displacement, compression ratio, number of cylinders, maximum rated RPM.
In the windsock it mentions that there were 3 technical reports produced by the allies. Where would I go about tracking these down? One was printed in Flight magazine and I see that I can buy a photocopy from WW1 Aeroplanes Inc (does anyone have an e-mail address for them by the way, their website only has a phone number and postal address) but what about the others?
Sorry for the long post! But I'd be really, really greatful for any help or advice that anyone here could give me.
Have fun
Finn
