French Sopwith Triplanes

MikeW- Great article on French Sopwith Triplanes in C&C Int. Recently picked up a St Pol album with several French Sopwith Triplane photos not in your article. Send me an e-mail at tphillips@schaferalb.com and maybe we can swap some scans.

hey Terry,

very kind of you!

Funnily enough, I heard from Stewart Taylor this morning and he said that many of the Canadian Sopwith Triplane pilots used to fall about laughing when the French took off in their triplanes, apparently they were absolutely terrified of them.

MikeW- They may have heard that some of the Triplanes (apparently not Sopwith built) had a nasty habit of folding up their wings. This severely compromised their flying qualities. They did score a few victories with them, though. Great article and helped me sort out the Tripehounds in my photos, especially the crash photos.
