Józef Mańczak- Richthofen's unit pilot

Hello
Kapitan Józef Mańczak (Jozef Manczak) was one of the most important hero of polish aviation in years 1919-1925.
He was born in Poznan in 1896. He finished aviation school in Darmstadt.
During world war I he was served in german's units (also on Richthofen's unit).

After war he fought in polish-soviet war in 1920. He was murdered in April 1940 by soviet's bandits in Katyn. I'm interested in his duty in german's unit durnig World War I.

My scan. On the foto we see (from left): płk.Macewicz gen. Dowbór-Muśnicki, ppor. Dziembowski, ppor. Pniewski, ppor. Mańczak, ppor. Norwid-Kudło, ppor. Biały and sierżant Hullej.

Thanks for all information

Hello Peteroz,

sorry, I can not find this man in my papers... but perhaps someone else can.

Are you sure that Józef Mańczak flew in a unit together with von Richthofen? Do you know which one?

Thorsten

The closest name I have is an Uffz. (no first name) Nauczak who was WIA on 23Apr17 while with Jasta 33. This could very well be the same man as the "n" and "u" were often inverted when type-setting, and the "N" and "M" could be a simple typo. Could this be your man? If he returned to the unit after this date, he could have been part of the JgGrp commanded by MvR during June 1917 ?????? R.

Thnaks for answers. We have lot information about his past life 1918-1940 (when he died) but information about his duty in german's aviation are very poor. I don't know in which scquadron was he flown.
Rick- I think Uffz. Nauczak could be capitan Mańczak but I'm not sure.
I also can look in my papers for some information about "Nauczak".
It's could help.
