all,
couldnt think of a title that would better ask this question:
is there a book that shows the a/c type,number, dates etc. of equiping of the Jastas?
ive seen it several times, we ask what or when a jasta was outfitted with what type of plane. is there a source WE can get to do this?
or is that info buried in several magazines on the different units?
i would like to know....

* No Ron, there is not. I have compiled mine from 55 years of research. *It is a very slow tedious process. *The *data I provided to Rammjaeger on Jasta 3, is from my list. *Every time I come across a reference that Jasta X were flying Alb. D.III aircraft on April 15, I note it on the matrix. That is how I did it. One listing at a time. In the Grubb Street books are hundreds of listings, if you can take the tme to go through them line by line. *Caution, some are incorrect.

* *There are two problems:
1. Time, I had planned on a book that would tell the story of the Fliegertruppe/Luftstreitkräfte, it's developement, people, the aircraft, airships and balloon services the orders of battle for every battle, the story of the battle participation, and all this in color. * I have written a manuscript on the Albatros Werke and their aircraft and have painted plates of all the B,C,D and J types built by Albatros, OAW, BFW, LVG,LFG ROLAND that were used in combat operations. (Not training types).
2. Most publishers would look at 100 color plates and tell you to go pound sand in an appropriate place. *Actually, there would be over 200 color plates. *That is very expensive!
They will say "What is the market for a book that will cost over $100?" *The answer is, "Maybe 3000, worldwide."
3. I am involved with Rick on a book on the Schutzstaffeln and Schlachtstaffeln, doing paintings for a benefactor in New Mexico and building a plank on frame large scale model of the U.S.S. Constitution, circa 1812,(Old Ironsides).
4. And, I am 78 years young.

* * I forgot about my personal markings catalog, it gives:
1. Jasta colors in it's heading, i.e. Jasta Nr.1 in red.
2. Jasta Nr.1 Pilot's names. nine listed of 12 listings.
3. Aircraft type with Jasta Nr.1 with serial numbers when known and month and year in chronological order, i.e.,
* * * * *Halb.D,II, *July 1916
* * * * *Halb.D.II, Sept. 1916, 2 listings in Sept 1916.
* * * * *Fok.D.I, Nov. 1916, 3 listings
* * * * *Alb.D.III, Mar. 1917
* * * * *Alb.D.III(OAW) Nov.1917, 2 listings.
* * * * *Alb.D.III(OAW) Dec.1917.
* * * * *Fok. E.V *Aug.1918.
4 Those drawings available in color are marked with a red"C".
There are 22 pages *single spaced of data on Jasta and other units, plus a color drawing. *All this for $ 9.50 post paid.

Why not a CD-Rom? Wouldn't be nearly as expensive as printing, or so they say.

I posted something in the Jasta 3 thread, but its appropriate here.
I fear that such information will be lost if not collated. Would it be possible to get some assistance in collating the information? Not sure about distribution yet, but still, I would hate to see this not get out to the public.
VBR,
John

Droops:
I have started to build spreadsheets for each of the combatants. I have the French, British, Belgian, half of one for Italy and the United States, sort of one for Austro-Hungary, An out line for Germany, and I have not started Russia or Ottomans. The German one has only unit numbers, no real data except some on the Jastas and some on the bomber units. I have started to put notes in as people on these lists mention things but it real sparce. Since I do not read any other language than english this is going to take a long time.
