Aerial Cameras and Radio Telegraphy

i have developed an interest in the types of aerial cameras and
radio telegraphy equipment used by the Russians and Romanians.
am seeking details about names and types of cameras, when they
came into use and with which units. the same questions apply to
radio telegraphy equipment in both air and balloon units. am
trying to track down names of manufacturers. it is possible that
some of both types of equipment came from France. any help
would be appreciated. thank you. august

I remember a "Nachrichtenblatt" of 1917 mentioned the Russians using French cameras - among them one with "16 Platten". NB did also report about different French cameras in one issue.

The Russians - like the other powers - liked to use captured German high quality cameras too.

Sorry, can not be of more help here but maybe Forumitee "Beerdrinker" from Russia can help here?

Hope this is of some use

Hello Agblume:

This camera was offered for sale on eBay some time ago. Asking price was $2,000.00, but there were no bidders. The seller claimed this camera to have paperwork indicating that it was in French military stores from WW1 through WW2. Based on some of the other posts, this type might have also been made available to the Russians. The seller commented that it was "a very large format, approximately 18 X 24". Presumably he was talking in centimeters (or maybe that's camera talk of another sort--you would know better: for all I know this is an early radar gun used by French Gendarmes to catch speeding taxis!). Not a lot of detail, but I hope it may be of use.

Here's the pics:
