Please, I need tips about Fokker Dr 1

Hello my dear friends:

After I finished my Albatross D.V (Airfix 1/72) and my Fokker D.VII (Roden, 1/48), both airplanes of Ernst Udet, I have decided to begin my third airplane of World War I, this time, the new Roden's Fokker Dr. 1, 1/32.

This kit presents four options of camouflage, and of these, those that I like more are the Ernst Udet's "Optical Illusion" 586/17 (of course) and the Friedrich Kempf's 213/17 (white "K").

Here my doubts begin and I hope that you, my friends, can help me:

1) What is the way more easy and/or effective to make the streaky trims off lower branches of finish on the fuselage and wings? The following photo shows an example of the type of camouflage that I want to obtain:

Somebody has photos, profiles or drawings that show clearly the correct schemes of camouflage of these two airplanes?

These are my doubts (at the moment )

Thanking all your aid, I send a strong embrace to you from Mexico City:

Greetings Sir Stuka; There are several methods on the subject of creating streaking. One just recently. Try the search engine at the top of the Models title page First go to the bottom leftand set the display of the threads to the 'beginning" in the pull down menu. Then go to the upper right of the pages and type in "Streaking." Several fine modelers have offered their attempts. Marlon Schultz for one (member Intrepid) My own is an acrylic base, clear dull coat barrier, then streaking. The following are my versions of ;
1. Fokker Dr.I 451/17 in a dioram ttiles ..."The student presumes to teach."
2. Fokker V.7 (a) w/n 1788

The only way to duplicate a particular a/c is to carefully study the photos of that a/c in various books,mags, etc. rather than trying to duplicate someone elses' drawings or model attempts. There are very few that really match

Basis for these is excellent photo refs.

They rarely (if ever) exist.

I think it frustrates....

Streaks are like autographs: Who wielded the brush that day on that particular aircraft.

Asking for photo refs is a fair request.

My Gallery
Fok.DR.I streaking camouflage.

Sir Stuka;
While the painters at the Fokker Flugzeugwerke follow a general pattern, each Fok.DR.I had its own pattern and was not duplicated on any other Fok.DR.I. The streaking patterns were like human finger prints. Therefore in order to be correct in painting you model of a Fok.DR.I you would need good photographs. There are photographs of Fok.DR.I 213/17 available I am sure, unfortunately I don't have it in my collection.
However, I do have a 1/72 scale drawing Of Ltn.Fritz Kempf's Fok.DR.I 213/17. Cat.no.Js2-29. it is a line drawing, shows all three wings, price is $4.00 + $3.50 postage. I also have Ltn.Udet's Fok.Dr.I in red and sky blue stripes. Greg and I have differing views on Udet's machine. The drawing is 5 views in color and the middle and lower wing are illustrated showin the camouflage pattern. The drawing is $15.00 plus postage. If you buy both drawing use only one postage.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Stephen- Is that the Fokker V.7 in your thumbnail? Looks like it has an SH.III and four bladed prop.

My dear friends:

Like always, it is a pleasure to count on your aid.

Stephen, I followed your indications and I found very good information, but I have some doubts:

1. With respect to the color of the upper surfaces, which must be the base color, turquoise, light blue or off-white doped-fabric color?

2. After the base color has dried, I must apply a dull varnish layer (Testors’ Dullcote, i.e.). And later what color I must use for streaky, Olive Drab or Light Olive? or I must use both?

3. In the instructions of kit of Roden they mention that the inferior surfaces must be painted in Matt Steel Grey, but in most of the profiles I have seen that the color is light blue, some like RLM 65. What you recommend color to me to use?

4. I use acrylics Tamiya and Gunze Sanyo. Please, you could say to me what colors would have to buy?

So many questions, but I know very little about airplanes of World War I.

DrIace, you are right, but as Barker says, it is difficult to find good photos that serve like reference, and more about a specific airplane, like those. Now I know that each airplane had streaking camouflage different, as it says Give San-Abbott.

My dear friend Dan-San, thank you very much by your offer. I will put myself in contact with you.

Thank you my dear friends, greetings from México City:

Stephen- That is a great model. Have an idea for a screen play where a V.7-like Triplane plays a prime part towards the end.

Keep up the good info. I have 2 of these kits. Is there any "inaccuracies" in this kit?
