Do any photographs exist of the aircraft factory that existed dur9ing WW1 on what is now Aintree Retail Park (Liverpool UK) and which before that was Courtalds and British Enca. I have read somewhere on the web that Se5's were turned out there. Has anyone any information? Many thanks

no pictures of your aircraft factory I'm afraid, but if you can get hold of the book "The Royal Aircraft Factory" by a chap called Hare, he has listed where all of the SE5's were built. This should give you some info on the output of the Aintree factory. Richard p.s. Good luck. I find the subject of the local production of aircraft quite fascinating, working at a car plant that built aircraft in both world wars myself.

Have you tried to find out if there is an Aintree or Liverpool local history society? I have had a certain amount of success with aircraft factories at Lincoln and Kingston on Thames by this route.
A search on the internet should at the very least throw up a snail mail address. Mike |
