Swedish aircraft - Theoretical Dept.

Submitted for your perusal, the Saab Sesquiplane in 1/72 as flown by Oblt. Jan Smorgasboard of the Flygvapnet who gained fame in the brutal "Fondue Incident" during the border skirmish of 1919 with the Laplanders. As you can see it was a powerful and heavily armed aircraft sporting three oerlikon machine guns. The bird was loved by its pilots for it's handling and manoerverability but hated by its ground crews because Saab spare parts were double the price and often impossible to find.

The fuse is from an old Revell DVIII and the wings and horizontal stabs are the tail from an Eastern Express Vimy. The engine is from the venerable Airfix Bristol Bulldog and the rudder is from the Toko Salamander/Snipe. The prop, landing gear, tailskid and wing gun are built from spares. Rigging is ordinary sewing thread.

Keep 'em flying (hypothetically),
Brian da Basher

Is the ignition down by the pilot's right foot? It's too bad it's not a Volvo, what with all the Ford parts floating about.

Capt Kit Basher; Nicely done sir. But woodn't the prop be metal on a big radial like that? Paint some stripes on the hood and the bonnet chekered and it looks like a mini Cooper.

Thank you Mr Lawson. Interesting thought about the prop. *scratches head* and I did spend some time thinking about ways to bash a Mini Cooper into a DH 2. Actually my next project will probably be a Dayton-Wright parasol prototype (ca. 1920) with retractable landing gear using the grill from a Vimy engine as a starting point. This one will have a metal prop. I also have that Roden Alb DII waiting...decisions....decisions...
