Question Landing gear question and photo needed: Avro 504

Hello!

I have a question concerning the landing gear and the "shock absorbing device" of the Avro 504. How did it work? Was this device also commonly used on other frontline aircraft (the only one I know is the big Handley Page bomber)?

Can someone provide me with a good b/w photo of the above mentioned device for use in the 2. Edition of my CD-Rom?

Thank you in advance for your help!
