Lt. Robert Brinton Hill, RFC - KWF 29 April 18

Another New Jersey lad who paid the ultimate price during the war was Robert B. Hill of Orange, New Jersey, one of three brothers to earn their wings during the war. Maurice McKnight Hill, killed in a crash at Orly in August 1918. James Moore Hill, eldest of the three survived his training in the US. I have adequate background on these two as they were in the USAS.

Robert Brinton Hill is somewhat lacking in details, but was assigned to 104 Squadron before they were equipped and sent to France and then detached for training at #1 (Obs.) School of Aerial Gunnery at Hythe/New Romney arriving on 28 March. Kwf here on 29 April 1918 with 2/Lt. Alex G. Boardman aboard BE-2e C'7009.

Unfortunately I have no other background on him. Any forumite have anything regarding his enlistment or early training ?

Thanks in advance -
Mike

New Jersey

ONEALM,

I found this bit in; "TIDES OF TIME; Ocean County, N.J." (Copyright 1940.)

"In 1880, the tract extending from Simpson Avenue east to the bay, was purchased from Charles E. Hill. Immediately after these purchases by the association, camp meetings were started and for a time were well attended, but they are now affairs of memory."

The name is "Hill", it could be a clue, it fits the time frame for a son from our great state...

Cool breeze,
Moggie

Hi Moggie -

Robert's father was "George Everett" - so Charles E. is close, but no banana. 1880 I think would have made him about 15 years old as well, so this would have to be Robert's grandfather at any rate. I do not have the family geneology back beyond Robert's parents to check if this is related. Given the number of pilots, I had to take a sanity check when I started that kind of digging!

Thanks for the effort.
Mike
