help with methuen book

Hi Guys, Hope the new year is going well for all of you. Hope someone can help me with this request. Dan-San recently gave me two possible colors, 27F8 and 15C6 for the SSW D1b. Can anyone post what these colors look like? Jumpin Jan had posted some Alb. colors but he unfortunetly has returned the book he was using. Thanks for your consideration.

There's a thread on this recently:

http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=17874

If you browse the thread you'll see some links to some tables that I scanned in from the back of a Methuen book which cross-references the Methuen codes to Munsell codes - these are supposedly precise conversions.

You can then download a free program, also linked in the thread, which allows you to convert the Munsell codes into something more usable on a computer, such as L*a*b or RGB. It's a bit convoluted, but you'll get there in the end.

Of course that'll only be approximate unless your system is properly calibrated and some colours won't be representable on a computer screen either, but given the nature of the subject most colour references are likely to be at least a little approximate in the first place.

Have fun

FinnN,
I missed your post in the other thread. I have downloaded the stuff you linked and will give them a try. Seems to be a lot of work just to get approximate color matches.

I would like to use the info that Mossie has to make some color swatches for use in PhotoShop. That would help me though not sure it would help people who need to mix ink/paint. Here it seems that a Panatone conversion would be more helpful.

And your right any Rgb stuff is only has good as the calibration of the monitor being used.

Most Adobe products ship with a Gamma loader witch can calibrate monitors. I use this and it does a ok job for what I do.
