I have another question regarding palmes, etc. When a pilot was awarded the Médaille Militaaire or Légion d'Honneur, was he also entitles to add another palme to hsi Croix de Guerre?
Also, assume that an Armée Général Ordre rathed a palme, is this correct.
I have never paid much attention to decoartions so these questiona may seem simple to those well informed on the subject.
The information I have for the emblems on the ribbon of the Croix de Guerre is:
Bronze Palm (Palme en Bronze) for mention on army level (5 bronze palms to be replaced by a silver one by decree of 8 January 1917)
Silver Gilt star (Étoile en Vermeil) for mention on corps level
Silver star (Étoile en Argent) for mention on division level
Bronze star (Étoile en Bronze) for mention at brigade or battalion level.
As far as the Legion of Honour goes, when it was awarded for war services it carried with it the automatic award of the Croix de Guerre with palm.
As far as I can establish, the Medaille Militaire was the rough equivalent to the Distinguished Conduct Medal and was awarded to NCOs who distinguished themselves in time of war. Nothing I've read suggests that the Medaille Militaire was accompanied by the award of the Croix de Guerre.
