Smile Marechal-des-Logis Paul Santelli

Friends

I want to ask on the origin of the French Ace, Paul Santelli.

In the list of aces of The Aerodrome, mentions that he was born in a called city Miramas, February 12, 1898.

Is somebody able to tell me if this city is in France?

They also write that he died in an air accident.

Some airplane associated to him exist inside the Spa81? Maybe a SPAD S.VII?

Any fact on this pilot is grateful.

Thank you for their help.

Dario

Excuse my very bad English.

Bonjour ami,

Miramas is a town near Marseille in south of France.
Santelli was a gunner of 2eme Regiment d'artillerie de Montagne. He was designed to the SPA 81 "Whippets". His score, is 1 plane and 6 dracchens, between 22may 1918 and "armistice".

He died 15 january 1927, as pilot of "Aeropostale" in South America at Minas in Uruguay.

Mon bon ami Philippe Jourdan

Thanked by the data on the exact location of Miramas, and on the regiment where Santelli served.

Interesting the fact on their accident flying for Latécoère.

The company Latécoère still survives in Venezuela with the name of Aeropostal.

I wait somebody can help to identify the airplane type, could he flown in WW1 and if taenia personal marks.

Grateful of their comments.

Leur ami au Venezuela

Dario

Cher Ami DTB

Very interesting the web site that you recommended me.

It is a grandiose effort to maintain the memory from the men to the service of France.

In the Great War several Venezuelan served in France, in the Foreign Legion.

A lot of envelope their service is not known.

I hope to be able to find something in this site.

Very grateful of their help.

Dario

Est-ce qu'un dossier semblable existe pour les légionnaires?

There are in the SGA site different section : one that works time to time (it was online then of line then on line ....) dedicted to all avition personel it include all that have served in the avition (they may have miss some) in WW1

the first section that was online deal with the Mort Pour La France and inclue all the soldier that have died for france during the war that include the member of the foreign legion (only if they died under french uniform) it contain the death report

so for exemple in the aviation section you will find both Lufbery

http://193.108.167.105/SrvImg/SrvImg...=2&_I=A250755V
and Norman Prince

(under the name Horman)

but in the death for france section only N Prince and the file will not be the same

so you should find all the foreign legion soldier that have died for france (now good luck to find them as you need to know the name)
