Pictures of Richthofen as Uhlan?

On Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...271983927&rd=1

there is a listing showing what it says is a early picture of Richthofen
as an Uhlan. Does this really look like him? Would the uniform be
correct for his regiment?

I must admit I was fascinated by this one.........with all respect to the seller ,and I have no doubt whatsoever that they are acting in good faith , along with the annotations for the officer involved, my first impression was ............."Is that really him ?!"

Maybe it is, but it certainly doesnt jump out at me as MvR of younger years.and believe me I have looked at most available photos of the man.

My apologies to the seller for any doubt, but the question was asked, and I guess that is what the Forum is about...at the end of the day any buyer must make up they're own mind.

richthofen in uniform

There may be *a* man with the name *von Richthofen* on the picture - but it is not *the* von Richthofen, none of them is *Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen*.

Look on the following site to see a picture of a field-grey uniform of the 1st Uhlans... and an old coloured one seeing the regiments uniform pre-1910.

I don't think it's MvR either. The face is too narrow, chin too pointy, and the ears are all wrong.

Definitely not the "Red Baron" Richthofen in this photo. Manfred and Lothar had various relatives who were also in the military and this person is probably a cousin.

Take a look at the third picture down-the person in the upper left. He seems to bear a good resemblance to the young baron. Perhaps the placement was mislabled?
