Perhaps I mentioned it before, but a few years back I had contact with Birks' grand daughter who'd visited the forum. She didn't know much about his aviation record, but I inferred that he was highly successful in business.

Somewhere I have his obituary from the Toronto Globe and Mail.

Birks is a very old established jewellery firm in Canada.
