I have been working off and on with Achim Engels on a few projects, this is one of them. This 3D model started life a while ago and I only recently was able to pick it back up again. Figured, if I start a WIP thread it will motivate me to finish the damn thing

I am using Achim's excellent research to get this thing as close as possible to the real aircraft. I am going to model the exterior only, but am using some interior components where those will be seen through openings. After the exterior is complete, the plan is to tackle all the interior components in Mark Milleresque detail.

All exterior components are my modeling, Achim built the interior fuselage framing, I assembled and textured it (just temporary textures for now), Achim also built the LG that I am showing in these images.. parts of these will be rebuilt and detailed. All other work is mine.

Anyway, here are a few views of the current state of the aircraft. I am using 3DS MAX version 5 for this model, and V-Ray to render:

..and a detail view:

Feedback is welcome.

Hi Bill
Welcome to the aerodrome
Glad you decided to post

Your DR1 looks great to me so far.
And if your just looking to model the exterior surfaces I'd say you're pretty well on your way.

Tim's modeling a DR1 as well
and you are both using the same software (I think)
he has the fus and you have the wings
maybe you guys could get together and save each other some work
just a thought

looking forward to seeing your progress
Mark

Thanks for the welcome Mark. Yeah I saw Tim's thread before I posted mine... and though it's looking good I am in the middle of building the fuse myself.

BTW, your 148th Aero Sqd thread on CGTalk is a big reason why I decided to pick this one back up... so thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers,
Bil

Bil
I'm amazed at how much traffic that generated.
downloads on my site increased to 4 times normal levels and I believe it is all due to that CGTalk award.

and I'm particularly pleased that it helped motivate you to post
