A little assistance please....

Lt. Bartholomew Marinus Frank Albanese, from Paterson, NJ, RFC Canada Programme at Desoronto, sailed for England 27 Feb 1918.

Variously reported with 23 Squadron 8 April 1918 - 13 October 1918
or from 9 August - 11 August 1918.

Stewart Taylor has him "injured" on 11 August while the RAF Daily Intel. Summary lists him "wounded" on that date.

Anyone have an details on the 11th August accident/indicent ? Any other details not listed here would be welcome as well.

Frank O - can you bail me out (again !) ?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Mike,

I am not going to be of much help this time. The Sky Their Battlefield does not have any 23 Squadron entries for August 11, 1918 (WF). This would make me think that he was injured in a flying accident, rather than wounded in combat, since TSTB does not include non-combat injuries or deaths.

Albanese does not appear in my claims database. But I have 15,000 photos from the PRO to go through (which I probably won't get to until next year). In particular that means that he was not credited with any destroyed aircraft; he could have OOC claims.

I am afraid you will need to get a copy of his Air 76 card(s) in order to check dates and causes. And I won't be going back to the PRO until early *next* August (WorldCon is in Glasgow next year, ya know).

Frank.

Frank -

Thanks for the effort. I'm fairly certain Albanese's injury was non-combat related. If Stewart Taylor has his assignment dates correct - 9 - 11 August - he wasn't around long enough to see combat. I checked TSTB as well and there was no 23 Sq. activity for the 11th as you pointed out.

Maybe some other forumite who is going to at the PRO would be willing to do the leg work - I'd be happy to compensate them ! (That's a hint guys....). Otherwise, this could take a while.....

Thanks again,
Mike
