Ok guys this might seem a bit strange but I'm working on a prototype RC kit of an Alb DV (DVa) and I have to figure out how to attach the bottom wing to the fuse. This model will have removable wings as its pretty big (54" span) and I want the lower wing to look right but it has to be able to be removed. I have to figure out what the stub off the fuse where the wing attached looked like. If anyone has a good photo of a full sized Alb lower wing/fuse attachment I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but I stumbled across this site last week and found some 3D illustrations by Mark Miller. They are outstanding and seem to offer what you are looking for;

Scroll down and you'll see the links.
Hope this helps,
Lou

DJ,
Thanks for the email. The design already has the actual attachment-two nylon bolts from inside the fuse going into blind nuts in the wing ribs. I'm not sure if the flying wires will be functional yet. On the smaller Alb DII and the Halberstadt DIII I've done the wires are semi functional in that they stiffen things.
My concern is what the fuse looks like at the attachment point. I've got a pic of the STROPP in the Air& Space Museum that shows the bottom of the plane and it appears there is a flat stub on each side of the fuse where the wings join.
Lou I found Miller's too. Their very good and are helping.
I'm just beginning to frame things up and working with the designer. I'm going to build a wing to see how it will fit.
When I get some more work done I'll post some pics here if there's interest .
Thanks for the help guys,
Dave

Dave:

Since the model's lower wing is one piece, all thats needed is a curved section to represent the bottom of the fuselage between the wing panels.

I'd try a block of balsa or foam attached to the bottom of the lower wing when it is bolted in place. Shape this and use it as a male mold for vac forming, crash molding or laying up a light fiberglass shell and attach the shell to the bottom of the lower wing.

And yes, lots of interest seeing progress photos.

BTW, My Eastbourne Monoplane maidened today. "Off the Board" only a touch of rudder trim and it flies hands off. My Bengston Fokker D.VII is next on the bench.

SP,
Was it the Pat Trittle Eastbourne? That was my first electric and it flew straight off the board also and flew consistantly well. If its the Trittle Eastbourne be careful of wind. I folded a wing at a fun fly due to wind. My flying wires were really functional in that they pulled in the right dihedral and added structural strength. This was the plane that got me into electrics and I've since sold off all my glow stuff.
The Alb DV I'm working on is another one of Kurt's prototype short kits. I'm doing the instruction photos for it. The lower wings attach somewhat like the actual plane in that they are not one piece wings but two individual wings that join to a strong lit ply substructure box. I'm going to have to sheet the fuse then cut an opening in the sheeting so the wing will slide in and be bolted in place. I don't think I would have designed it that way but this is a new venture for Kurt being that its large and will have removable wings for transport. His smaller stuff has permanently attached wings which is really easier to design.
I'll post so pics when things are bit more together-right now its just beginning bones .

Yes the Eastbourne is Pat's design. I can see how it would cause you to get rid of all the slimers. This puppy flies great!

About the D.V lower wing, I see now said the blind man. I didn't realize the lower wing was in two pieces. I expect that you could still make a built up section of curved lower fuselage custom fit & fiddled to go in place after the wings get bolted on. The little rare earth magnets that Radio Shack sells might be a good way of holding it firmly in place, yet keeping it easily removable.

Please keep us posted on your progress and since you are making photos for the instruction manual, no excuse not to post a lot of photos too
