Hello,
I am looking for information on Oblt. Haupt-Heydemarck - who flew in 1916 with Feldflieger-Abteilung 17. Where did he see further action (after the death of his comrade Fritz 'Take' Engmann? Thorsten

Following his service with FFA 17, he transferred to FFA 30 in Dec16. R. |

Hello Thorsten
Oblt Georg Wilhelm Haupt-Heydemarck was transferred to FA 30 in Macedonia after his service within FFA 17. However, when arriving there in Feb 1917 he was nominated as "leader" of the "part" of FA 30 which was stationed at Drama...one of his pilots was the rather famous Rudolf Eschwege. He replaced Oblt Wilderich Geissler as the leader of this small unit. He also wrote a book about his experiences in Macedonia and some of his books have been translated to the English language...! In Sep 1917 he left Drama and was replaced by Lt x König. After his service in Macedonia, I dont knew what happened to him...  Anyone who have Königs first name...?...or knew what happened to Wilderich..?  Gunnar |

Gunnar, the following data is "iffy" because most of it is based on Heydemarck's books, but:
I have Königs' first name as Friedrich (Alfred?). There was a Friedrich König who was the OzbV of FA 300 at this time, so Alfred may be correct. Heydemarck went to Kofl F Stab on 23Sep17 to ('18), then to AOK Scholz Stab in 1918 and finally to the artillery. Geissler went back to FA 38, then: FA 38 2Feb17 - 19Aug17 AFP 11 19Aug17 - 28Jan18 BeoSch. Adj. AFP 11 28Jan18 - EOW R. |

Hello Rick and Gunnar,
thank you for your usual good info! Two days ago I bought Haupt-He*i*demarck's book "Flieger im Westen" in which he describes his action with FFA 17 in a very vivid manner!! FFA 17's leader at that time was the 'beautiful Max/ der schöne Max' (Hauptmann Max Mohr) who later became Grufl. Thorsten
