I couldn't find anything about this aircraft on Google, other than the reference right here at The Aerodrome to Laurence Allen having used one.

Anyone got a lead on it?

Dave,
I believe that this would refer to the Bristol F2a & F2b fighters that 48 squadron were supplied with.
