How did the bombs from the internal bomb racks get dropped? Was it by hand? Sorry if this sounds really silly, but I can't find anything in my refernces to tell me this. h34r:

I'm not able to find any details for the Gotha G.III, but the G.IV used a set of cable operated controls, located on the right hand side of the forward position.
A number of references also talk about hand dropped bombs, but these seem to be earlier periods, before the bombers gained external multi-function racks.

The aluminum doors on the bottom of the fuselage were spring loaded, the weight of the P.u.W. 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs.) bombs would open the doors. After the bomb(s) were dropped, the spring on the door closed it automatically.
