Hi
This is just a wee note to let folk know that my website is up and running, on it you'll find coloured black & white images, including a handfull of aviation images.....two of them feature the Triplane of Werner Voss....boy, is that a controversial subject!......this has the 'right' cowl colours !!

http://www.geocities.com/centuryimaging/

If you've seen coloured b&w's before and had your doubts, then I'd appreciate your opinions on these, this is using a specially developed technique that's years ahead of anything else.

There's a few more images waiting to be posted on the site, which should happen over the next month or so.

Cheers, and thanks everyone.

Hi Murray
Your colorised images look good.
my personal favorite is the studio portrait of Isreal Richardson.
The color looks very convincing

however
of more personal interest to me is the spit cutaway.
Looks good - is there any way to see a bigger version?

Hi Murray. The link to your site doesn't seem to be working. I'm getting a screen saying that the site is unavailable. Is there another address you could give?

Isn't that just typical....I spent the last few weeks building the site, and then it goes pear shape. Turns out it had exceeded it's file transfer allocation. So it should be okay now, I've just checked and everything looks fine.

At the momment this is just the basic site, I think it might be a good idea to add extra pages to allow larger versions of a couple of the images to be available....like the Spitfire, which really would benefit from a bigger version.

Thanks, fingers crossed it'll keep working........If Yahoo made a plane you wouldn't want to fly in it !.

Nice. Good call on keeping the saturation down. My only complaint is that the yellow on Voss' cowling looks a bit dull. Too olive-brownish.

As Doc Holliday would say, It's A Reckoning:

WELL DONE on Gen. Mahone!
ditto Verner.

I cast vote for the very slightest tweak up of saturation on Verner und also the F1.
Your restraint, taste and gentle hand are commended.

however-that Albert is loud as hell, fwiw.
the red just jumps.

I'm not being a dink - it's kinda jarring.

The best two, for my two bits, are Richardson & Mahone - there's a balance of hue & saturation you caught perfectly.

Everybody's got an opinion...that's just my feedback.

I can't do it so am not complaining. Nicely done.

I think the saturation in the aircraft photos could be increased as well. In the Jasta Boelke photo it is apparent what the colours are, but they are still washed out. The vegetation they are standing in should be green (possibly gray/green) as it appears to be a type of vetch. Their uniforms also appear under saturated.

The side photo of Voss's aircraft is, I have to say it, unconvincing. Sorry Fokker Team Schorndorff, but it is pale, wishy-washy and barely an improvement over gray tones. Only the building roofs show a hint of colour.

To echo others, most look good, and I'm not complaining either.

Wonderful !....thanks for the feedback, I think I'll try tweaking the Voss Triplane image,....I know what you mean, it needs a bit more life. It's hard to say, but it could be because it's what i'd call a more of an 'authentic' colouring, keeping everything as per the original tones of the image....which can leave a kind of washed out look. The Civil War Generals had much more 'tweaking', as portraits rather than Historical images.

Thanks again for the feedback, it's much appreciated.

Because of bandwith restrictions, I've created a mirror site with a working Gallery, and a much larger copy of the Spitfire cutaway available.

Murray,

Outstanding work as usual! Can't wait to see the MVR ones. There was a photo taken of MvR and LvR standing next to a tripe in a hanger. MvR has on his fur suit and LvR a flying suit. Any chance of you doing that one?

Thanks for the bigger images
The Spit cutaway is impresive.
Looks to me like you did it by hand B)

Is that a trimetric projection?
Only thing I ever did was isometric projections
which I imagine would be far easier.
lot less complicated anyways

Colorised photos
Have you considered adding blue to the sky in the colorised images?
Ortho film dumps out blue which contributes to that washed out sky look you see in period photos.
But, I guess the central issue is - are you trying to reproduce the photo, or what is in the photo?
is it against the rules to add external photographic data?
