Actually not the original but a "second piece" manufactured for himself in the thirties to save or replace the "original". <_<

Boy, if this one can be positively identified as actually belonging to Veltjens, then the current price is a steal. But even an authentic jeweler's copy of this award with no provenance can bring thousands of US dollars!

That's something over $800 US, which does in fact seem a Deal. Hmmm...wonder where the PlM has been all these years.

Hmmm ... I've just logged in for the first time since before Christmas, and this was an interesting thread I missed out on. Simply put, this cross never belonged to Joseph Veltjens or any other WW1 flyer. It is a currently manufactured reproduction made in Germany. They are nice quality, but unfortunately a great number of them are appearing all over the market as "20's/30's jeweler's copies". Caveat emptor.
