Gentlemen,
I decided to represent v.Tutscheks 404/17 with the help of the new Revell kit. But I am not sure where to fix the leader's streamers.

Could it be that there was a thin rope slung around the wing strut? I can't identify anything for sure, so any suggestions are appreciated!

Merry christmas,

Hans

I am under the impression that the streamer was attached to the wing skids of the lower wings.

They are not. Look at the picture. The streamer hangs down from the trailing edge, the skid is right and lower of that.

( P.S. No need to waste bandwidth by repeating a picture which is simply just above.... )

I don't know what that black thing is, but it looks awefully straight to be a streamer!

Hello Hans -

These are my sources:
Osprey's "Fokker Dr1 Aces", Albatros' Fabric Datafile Special "vR's Flying Circus" and Schuster & Engels' "Fokker V.5/Dr 1"
Osprey and Schuster/Engels each display the picture you have posted here.
Osprey shows another of 404/17 showing the streamer thrown up around the bottom interplane strut. Osprey shows this streamer in a sideview as running from black to white, trailing.
Just to set that...
I looked at the Schuster/Engels booklet to get at structure to determine where this could be attached.
Some candidates:
-Any of the joining hardware for the interplane strut to the wing frame.
-trailing edge structure
-wing rib
This is all guess, but I rule out the last two as running a screw through them may weaken the piece. Having a 2-3 m long streamer tugging on them would not help matters.

I keep looking in and around the strut to find something to fasten it to.
Fastening it to a hardware brace makes some sense in that it is at least fixed to something steel, rather than wood.
The more I think about a cable or wire, the more I "see" this thing abrading and scraping hell out of the fabric in that area of the wing.

anyhoo, that's my two pfennings.

pg # refs:
Osprey pp. 76, 39 plate, profile #24
Fokker V.5/Dr 1 pp 50, strut plan view, 19 (same Osprey photo), 20, your photo, closer.

Incidently, these are my only sources and I found no other Dr 1's with streamers for comparison as to how "they" may have done it. Odd. Somebody had to have fixed streamers to a triplane besides Herr v.Tutschek...

On my models, I tied the streamer to the wing skid..........

It "feels" right to me........
