Hi,

Does anyone know where Poss was shot down on the 15th of october 1918 ? Could it have been in the Roulers (Roeselare region), being a victim of a Belgian crew ?

??? ??? ???

Hi Regulus

It seems from the description of Hubrich(who said he was an eyewitness), that Poss was shot down by ground mg-fire...!.....the location and time is however not given...

Pieters says in his book that the Belgian Air Force did shot down three Fokkers between 7:20 and 7:35 in the morning....also Bowman the commander of 41 sq shot down a Fokker around this time.
I dont have any possible French claims in the area yet, when will the book by Bailey/Cony be publish...? >

What does the combat reports from the Belgian pilots says about if their victims fell within allied hold lines or not..?

Did the Belgian/French/British ground troops made any claims of the Fokker..?

For about two Years I have tried explain to the World that Poss was NO Leutnant zur See....
I also mailed the Webmaster but not the slightest reaction followed... 8)

He was however an active officer with the rank Leutnant der Marineinfanterie(Lt d MI)....so his military "status" was indeed higher than most others....

Hi Gunnar,

My stupid mistake with the z.S. !

No the Belgian reports :

1st Sgt Vandervoort claims a Fokker DVII of the MFJ IV, north of Roeselare (Roulers). So already in Belgian hands.
Sgt Guillon claims a Fokker DVII above Sleihage. It seems that after just a few shots he saw the pilot collapse in his seat. While crashing he followed it untill 50 meters above the ground, but was attacked by two other Fokkers DVII, forcing him to return to the own lines.
Adj. de Montigny had the third claim that day above Roeselare (Roulers) on also a Fokker DVII. Have no details on this fight.
Vandervoordt seems indeed to be the one who probably shot down Poss.
Guillon claims a plane with a horizontal line in yellow on the fuselage, for shure a plane also of the MFJ, as I have seen it on photographs already. I think of MFJ V. ???
Leaves us again with Baum and Schönbaum.

Not logical for the moment...

Hi Regulus

Does the Belgian combat report of Van der Voordt actually states that his victim fell within allied lines...?...and what does the interrogation report says about the German pilot..?

Does it also states that Guillons victim actually fell within allied lines..?
It seems roughly the same area for me...!

However the only "known" German report of Poss demise states he was shot down by ground mg and NOT enemy aircraft..

MFJ I and II did shot down two confirmed e/a in the Roulers area this day....so for me it seems possible that they were involved in the fight..and the 10 and 11 Belg esc. lost two aircraft this day...
