When reading about varous German aircraft the control grips are often described as "a standardized control grip". Could this be a grip built by one sub contractor to fit all aircraft ? or just a "style" or "layout" of the grip to be the same for all aircraft ?

I only have one picture of the Siemens stick, but it is suposed to be one of these "standardized" grips. ??

Thanks

Mike

The standardized control grip, was the Fok. D.VII grip. The standardized grip was furnished with the two Spandau Maxim LMG 08/15 machine guns and the synchroner gear and flexible drive along with synchronizer for the specific engine. The manufacturer of the Fokker Zentralteuerung was the Flugzeug Waffenfabrik G.m.b.H. in Reinickendorf, owned by Anthony Fokker. Poor Tony Fokker, got money from everybody for every machine gun that wound up in a German airplane. He also received a 5% fee for every Fok. D.VII made by Albatros and OAW. He sure had it tough!

So I wonder about the timing. I have seen the Fokker grip and it doesn't look like the Siemens grip in the D-III that I have a picture of. (Datafile 29 page 30 ) When did the grip become standard. I wonder if a production D-IV had the standard grip.

I don't when the Fokker Grip became standardised, but it was the grip on the Rol.D.VIa and D.VIb in March 1918. Iwas also on the Junkers Ju.D.I. I am sure there are others
The synchronizer drive that attached to the engine were designed for engine type and whether it was a single or double clutches, the clutch units were common on all units. The flexible drive shaft length and trigger drive were engineered for each aircraft type.

OK so as far as timing goes....March 1918 some of the Siemens D-IV could have the Fokker grip. Can you think of any other clues to confirm or deny a Fokker grip in the Siemens D-IV ?

I only know of the one picture of the Siemens cockpit. Short of going to Poland and having a look it just guess work. Plus Albatros could have changed the one in Poland anyway.

* *I don't think the Albatros Werke or OAW used the Fokker Standarized Grip on any Albatros D. or C type aircraft they built during 1918. They most likely had requested the M/G sets without the grip, or they changed them on receipt. The machine guns and Fokker gear were goverment equipment. Albatros and OAW did use the Standardized Grip on the Fok.D.VII(Alb) and (OAW). The photograph of the SSW D.III cockpit shows it does not have the Standardized Grip. *I have not seen a photograph of the SSW D.IV cockpit, so I can't comment on whether or not it had the Standardized Grip. *Pfalz did not use them on the Pfalz D.III or D.IIIa, D.VIII or D.XII.
