Forum,
I have been told that the State Library of NSW has "lost" their copy of the London Gazette with the issue of 3 December 1918.
I wish to find out if Guy Newton Moore did indeed receive the DFC, whether it was announced in the London Gazette mentioned, and whether it was a "general" type award, or whether specific acts were mentioned.
Thanks in advance,
Steve Drew

Steve,

MOORE, Guy Newton, Acting Captain
Royal Air Force

An officer of high courage and ability who has rendered most valuable services in co-operation with our artillery, notably during the operations 1st to 5th September, when in spite of adverse weather conditions, necessitating flying at very low altitude, he located sixty-six active hostile batteries and directed fire on a number of other targets. The skill and accuracy displayed by Captain Moore during these operations was exceptional and of the greatest value. (LG – 3/12/1918 pg 14324)

I will send you all the DFC Aussies.

Andrew.

The Distinguished Flying Cross was instituted by Royal Warrant on 3 June 1918 and the announcement appeared in the London Gazette of the same date; the Royal Warrant did not appear in the London Gazette until 5 December 1919. The clauses included one with the statement that the award would be made to officers for an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty performed whilst flying in active operations against the enemy. Awards made for further acts would be denoted by a Bar worn on the ribbon of the original cross.
