I've noticed that when you look through the various services that the German Air Service is the only one with much of any significant information attached to it on this website. I was hoping that the information the other equally interesting and historically significant air services might have been included as well. for example... let's suppose that I would like to know how many aces were in Escadrille 65, and what the collected victories of that unit might have been. perhaps it might be worth having pages which indicate the relative strength of any given unit in terms of personell, stuff like that.

We need to invite some experts to take part in the forum. Many of them are somewhat older, like Bill Bailey. Many are not online yet and aren't aware of how this technology is changing how we collaborate and do research, but... I would say we need to invite men like Bernard Klaeyle and Philip Osche and others that I've seen on the Cross & Cockade list to comment. It takes a little time, but I think it is worth it.

Tortoro Man

This information in contained in the book "Over the Front" The total scored for each "Chasse Escadrille" is given as well as the aces and their scores.

Spa 65 had a total of 108 "confirmed" victories and the aces were as follows:
Spa 65 War
total Total
Lt C Nungesser 33 43
Sgt J Gérard 8 8
Sgt J Sauvage 8 8
S/Lt E Camplan 7 7
Adj M Henriot 6 6
Lt R de Bonnefoy 5 6
Lt L Cayol 5 5
S/Lt G Plessis 5 5
Adj G Lienhard 3 5

I would be pleased to try to answer any questions you have regarding French chasse pilots and escadrilles.

Beat me to it, Bill.

Just to correct one detail, Plessis scored twice with N88 before claiming at least three with Spa65 (the summary in OTF shows him with all five with Spa65).

Well he's asking not only for more information, but the ability to slice and dice it a bit more than what exists now. That's perfectly possible, but the information must be in a relational database like SQL, and whoever codes this site would have to set up the ability to perform dynamic queries (e.g. show me how many kills Jasta 5 pilots had in June 1918).

thanks for the info.
I've long considered buying the specific book you've referenced... but it costs more money than I can afford to part with. and there is the significant detail that I can't find it in any of the used book stores I frequent. of course, if I were to take the word of many forumites here, there is a very good reason why nobody's anxious to part with it! I'm just sorta hoping they stay in print long enough for me to grab them later.

Graeme,

You are absolutely correct correct in that Plessis did in fact score his first two victories with N 88, his 3rd victory can't be accounted for right now, but he had two probable victories, 28 May 1917 and 19 June 1917, also with N 88, one of which could have been a late confirmation as his third giving him a total of six for the war.

At the moment I am working on a database of the crashes which happen on Belgium territory. In the future I will put this info on line. I am wondering if their exist such sites which compare victory and losses. Maybe it's a start to resolve our problems

If you wanna know something about Belgian Units mail me; I am your man
