Does anyone know the serial number of the Gotha G.III shot down by Guynemer on Feb.8/17?
Also any idea of markings and colour scheme? I've seen one pic of it on display in the town of Nancy but much of the plane is damaged or stripped of fabric.

Thanks in advance.

I am not knowing the answer but if he was claiming the Gotha on the French side than somebody should try to look at the French magazine "LŽIllustration". They would maybe offer photographs of the aircraft like in later incidents too. Sadly, I am not possessing the mags of the first half year 1917.

Guynemer's run during the end of January culminated on 8 Feb when he attacked and brought down # 31. The remains were displayed in Paris and used for France's war bond drive.

The victory over the Gotha at Bouconville must have gone a long way in bringing his reputation up to legendary status.
