Hello,

I‘m searching for information on this crew of FA 233 killed on September 11, 1917 over ‘Langenhoek’ (?) after colliding with a Balloon cable. Anybody has by any chance details concerning the accident, context, hour, plane type?

Thanks in advance,
M.

Hi Marco,

First thing to know is at which Langenhoek the accident occured. There are three locations with this name, but the one at Oostkerke near Damme is not a possibility I think.
A second location is near Torhout, and a third one must be in the Diksmuide area, haven't located this one yet correctly. Will see if I can find more about this one.
Both Dobberstein and his pilot Wörner are burried at Vladslo military cemetery.
Not much help I'm afraid.

Best from Johan

Oh yes, FAA 233 was at Oostkamp airfield at the time of the accident. Most of the planes in this period were DFW CV and Rumpler CIV's if I'm not mistaken. Most of the FAA also had Albatros C types, but most of the time not many of them.

Thanks Johan, I found Langenhoek (in Dixmuide). Is about 1 km northwest of the actual German cemetery.
I think this is the right place, as FA 233 belonged to 'Gruppe Dixmuide'

Regards,
M.
