Hello! This is my first message to the Aerodrome Forum!
I'm building an Albatros D.III in Ltn. Ernst Hess' markings, 2041/16, Jasta 28w. I need some help with wings camouflage.
I learnt that, by that time, camouflage used maroon, light green and dark green, but I have no idea of how Hess' wings were (the only thing I know is that first color from left to right was maroon).
So, can anyone help me with this? ??? ??? ???
Bye from Brazil

Hess flew at least 5 different D.IIIs that I am aware of in various markings, some quite striking. There is a photo of a Jasta 28w lineup with several D.IIIs and two D.Vs lined up that appeared in OTF 15/1 2000 that might give an indication of camouflage markings on the upper surfaces. What is the source of the photograph that you are referencing?
Thanks

Hello!
I'm not using any photo reference, but a profile made by Bob Pearson.
The Albatros D.III I'm building is the 2041/16, fuselage is half green, half wood color, with some light gray parts, like struts. Lower wing surfaces are sky blue, tail is standard for Jasta 28w: yellow with two black stripes.
Bye from Brazil

Marcio;
Ltn. Ernst Hess's Alb. D.III 2041/16 was painted as follows: forward ^
Upper wing; pale whitish green rust brown dark green
lower wings; pale whitish green dark green I I rust brown dark green/ pale whitish green.
Fuselage; front half to the middle of the cockpit straw yellow, aft including upper and lower fins and rudder, green
tailplane; yellow with a black stripes between the two outer ribs on both sides, top and bottom.
Underside of the wings and wheel covers, sky blue.
Spinner, cowlings, louvers, access doors, fittings, ammo belt chute covers and all struts were light grey.
Marcio, I used rust brown to describe the color of the brown it is precisely 'Venetian red" The pale green is chrome green lightened with white until it is pale whitish green. The scale is like this:
vivid green, , , light green, pastel green, pale green, X ,greenish white, white.
I hope this helps.
Blue skies,

Dan San,
thank you very, very much!
Only one doubt remaining, I don't know the color of that piece that goes between wheels, I use to call it "axle".
Perhaps you mentioned it in the message with another word, but I didn't understand it due to my poor English (especially when such aviation-related words come into action ).
Once more, thanks for your help!
All the best from Brazil

Marcio:
All struts including the axle and the steel tube (spreader bar) that connects the the bottom of the landing gear legs are painted light grey.
GOD bless America
