Hello,

I have read in several publications ( Fokker Dr1 Aces of WW1 for one) that Josef Jacobs gave an interview back in 1974.

Does anyone know whether this interview was written down, or indeed if Jacobs himself ever published an account of his life and experiences?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Several people interviewed him over the years. Neal O'Connor has published several volumes (VI so far) of the stories of the Aviation Award recipients of the German Kingdoms and Duchies. Vol. V had a lot of information about Jacobs, but other volumes did as well. The information were based on multiple interviews that Neal O'Connor had with him as well as information gathered by the likes of other researchers.

Parts of his combat diary has been published in installments in both Cross & Cockade International and Over The Front.

While I have seen a lot of these references, it still would be good for someone to write an entire book on Jacobs. Definitely one of the nicest personalities of the German aces!

Dear Scottie,
*If you would check page '20' of "People", here at The Forum, you can find an interview with Jacobs that I submitted this past 30 December 2001. Hope you enjoy it!

Hello All,

A Munich newspaper featured an interview with Josef Jacobs on the occasion of his 80th birthday in May 1974. By this time he was I believe the last living aviation recipient of the PLM. I have a copy of this interview which is of course in German.

Perhaps this is the interview in question, although Neal O'Conner also visited him around that time and it turned out to be the last time the two men would meet.

To all you fellow Americans, have a great but safe Memorial Day weekend. This is a good time to remember not only our own heroic fallen, but those of other nations who gave their lives so the rest of us could live. God Bless them all...

Best Wishes,
Gary
