hi all,
trying this again, as it doesnt look like my post took... if it did, then ill delete it later...

anyway, as i was at the hobby shop for another reason, i came across the Fokker DR.I Aces of WWI from osprey. then, looking around, i was shocked to see American Aces of WWI! thats a new on me!
its got serving with the british, french, and usas. camel, as well sections. se5a,camel, spads, n28s as profiles.

on the front is Frank Lukes spad flying over 2 german balloons, for those of u in the FL group. *;D

looking on amazon, looks like british aces is coming soon as well. things looking up for us ww1 fans!

PS,

what is everyones consensus on the entire osprey line? meaning, how accurate do alot of u feel it is? i know the luftwaffe profiles have been slammed by many of the luftwaffe researchers, but what about the info therein?

i know Barrett's work is good (right? *)

just curious, as im defending them on another board...

Ron,

*I got the Spad VII Aces of WWI and American Aces books last week. I was bit dissappointed with the American Aces book. I though the photos were a bit weak, I still think that. Because alot of the American lads signed up several years before their nation did I though the photos would show more diversity. I had seen a lot of the photos before like the SE5a cockpit ( which is in a lot of coffee table books ) etc and some of the photos had dubious relationship to the subject like the 22 Sqn Biff photos. I thought the profiles showed the diversity well and the text is an amalgam of the "Above the .. " or "Over the ..". But was dissappointed with the photos.

*The Spad aces book is wonderful. I also wish they had divvyed up the British and Commonwealth Aces into their (then) ethnicitries for the forthcoming book. The Canadians certainly should have their own book, the Antipodeans could be lumped together and the English have more than enough aces for their own book.

Then again these books are supposed to be introductions to the subject ....

hey cam,

havent read it yet. did like spad 7 aces tho.. i agree, we want more out of them than what they can pack into 70-90pages...

probably are more for introductory...... but i enjoy anything i can get my hands on with markings....and some stories..

hell, even toliver and constable's book on american, luftwaffe aces books can only deliver a few paragraphs per ace. the luftwaffe could do a couple chapters, but thats the well known top aces....

i enjoy them for what they are... quick references.

btw, what IS the color of Voss's cowling? :

Yes the quality of photos, profiles and information all well presented for $16 - $19 USD is hard to beat.
