Hank,

Yes, I considered that, and will call him to check options. Still, reality is that I don't have a lot of extra time from about mid January through April 15. Plus I have some R/C planes to repair.

BUT, I can probably squeeze in a LITTLE time

Question. What is the best way to deburr the inside of drilled holes without a deburring tool? What I have done so far, I could mostly get to the back side, but I know that will be an issue. Or should I go ahead and invest $20 and get one.

I tried out my pneumatic pop rivet gun. Man that thing is great.

Also, does what I have done so far look OK from the photos?

Dale

You can get a cheap deburring tool from Harbor Freight (yea, I hate buying Chinese tools too). Nothing beats having a tool designed for the job.
That said, Graham said to never debur the holes. He claimed the burs didn't hurt anything and so far as much as it makes me cringe, it works.

Thanks Hank,

Interesting about Robert's comment. The exterior is easy to deburr and I will continue to do want I can.

I am not getting e-mail notifications of thread posts for the last several days. Anyone else noticing that?

Robert says the little shavings inside the tubing are built in bank and climb sonic indicators.

They also clean any interior corrosion as they work.

That's funny! Graham said the same thing once. That and the burs crushed under the heads of the rivets made them tighter and kept them from spinning if you had to drill one out.
What a character!
Hank

With the safety margin in these structures, I don't plan to worry about it.

Hank, I think your last comment hits it on the nail. We're not talking about sound barrier stuff here.

I spoke with Robert today about ordering the rest of the kit and coming to visit. He says he's about 8 weeks production times, so I'll be sending my money shortly with plans to visit him late April or May.

My wife is already to stop at Branson on the way

We discussed some modifications I would like, and he seemed to be agreeable. He also answered the last couple of questions I had on the rudder, so I hope to be able to pretty much finish it tonight.

Hey, if you are going to Branson, then you might as well stop by Rolla and touch base with the Culver prop & Valley Engineering folks. If you haven't met Larry, Gene, or Alaina, you've missed out on some good folks.

Suggestion: Drop the wife off at Branson unless she's going to help.

Rob, thanks for the tip.

Brad, Interesting Idea, but while she might not actually pull rivets , she is interested in airplane stuff and would likely want to come along to Holden. I realize Holden isn't the hot spot of activity, but Kansas City doesn't appear too far.

She's already been to Branson a couple of times, I haven't.

The general plan would be to drive my Ford dually with my large truck camper in the back, and make a mini vacation out of the trip. While I work with Robert's crew, I am sure she can find something to do. To come home, I would either take a trailer with me to haul the built and unbuilt parts back, or rent one up there some where.

Back in 1988 when I bought the car kit, we did that. Instead of paying $800 shipping from Fargo, ND, we hooked up an empty car hauler trailer behind my Surburban and loaded up the kids and went on a 2 week vacation. Hit Nashville, Indianapolis, the area around Fargo, the original (and then ONLY) Bass Pro shop in Springfield MO, and Memphis. We had a great trip. However, although we toured the factory for several hours asking questions and taking photos, I wasn't tied up 10 hours a day while there.

I will mention it to her though.

Slowly!

I haven't cleaned the edges and rounded the corners of the plate yet, and I plan to use it for a pattern for the other side.
