Anemometer Rotational speeds

Does anyone know the RPM that anemometers like the Morel might be operating at in flight at say cruise speed of an Albatross?

This would get more attention if posted under ‘Aircraft’ and not this sub-group. Person to ask would be Jeff Brooks as I recall that he investigated having some made with/by Vet Thomas. I believe that they had drawings which would determine the internal gearing ratio(s).

Regards,
John

When researching for building the replica Morrel Anemometers I found a study on those used for weather observations. Was very in depth with formulas for calculating cup size, rotational speeds and accuracy, gust sensitivity, etc. Great if your developing a new anemometer, unfortunately it was not very useful for me duplicating an existing design. So I did not keep a copy, an internet search may turn it up.

The cups work like a governor, in that they work against 2 coil springs. More rotational speed, more pressure on the springs. A connecting rod from the cup assembly goes to a clockwork style gear set to the dial pointer.

There were high speed and low speed aircraft anemometers. They were identical except for the markings on the dial face. Speed range was set by adjusting the spring tension on the cups.
