Nieuport 82

Hi everyone,

I saw this while researching the Nieuport 10.
The 82 had longer wings and twin bay V-struts.

Beyond a few snippets of information and some side-profile artwork, I haven't been able to locate much on it.

Has anyone come across 3-views and specifications?
Was it the same as the Hispano-Suiza powered Nieuport 14?

Any insights greatly appreciated!

From the book „Nieuport Aircraft of World War One“ by Ray Sanger:

Quote:
During 1917 and 1918, Nieuport produced derivatives of its scout and reconnaissance machines for training purposes, and these were given type numbers in the 80 to 84 range, these probably making reference to the 80hp Le Rhone engine that was commonly used to power these machines…

…The Nieuport 82 D2 was a derivative of the Nieuport 14 with the rotary engine. One version had the supplementary pair of wheels supported in front of the main undercarriage, and was christened the Grosse Julie….

…The general course of tuition at the flying school at Pau was for ab initio training, to be carried out on the dual-control Nieuport 82, followed by further training on the dual-control Nieuport 81. A pupil's solo flight was carried out in a single-seat Nieuport 80, and further experience was gained up to receiving his certificate on the single-seat Nieuport 83.
The book gives following data for the Nieuport 82:

Span 11.9 m, length 7.9 m, height 2.7 m, wing area 30 sq m, loaded weigth 700 kg.
No speeds are given.

The following photo shows a Nieuport 82 with the four-wheel arrangement to prevent turn-over, it comes from:

By the way, famous singer and first Afro-American aviatrix Bessie Coleman learned flying on a Nieuport 82.

Thank you for your reply fabulousfour, that's very helpful and interesting!

Amazing that the type was powered by an 80hp rotary, I shudder to think of its climb-performance.
