Thank you for sharing this! Still makes my head spin that people can believe they can romanticize history when it is fascinating enough to begin with.

LOL
Oh how I hate all MvR movies I’ve seen! Some things are so cringy that I can hardly stand to watch. All you can do is shake your head.

However, I think the whole approach, character development, "theme" and atmosphere were all wrong. MvR, his brother (boy, did they get THAT relationship wrong), and his comrades don't come off as the dedicated soldiers and (let's face it) the skillful killers they really were, trying to win a war. They come off as pampered, whining generation X-ers, in my eyes. I don't think Muellerschön ever really decided what kind of movie he was trying to make. He actually said that (here's a common refrain) that he wasn't making a documentary - but that the more he found out about MvR, the more he thought that the real MvR was like he was portrayed in the movie!! So, is it an anti-war movie, a heroic flag-waver for Germany, or what??
The whole 'friendship' with "Roy Brown" and the love story? Don't get me started...

Love this one lol
Couldn’t agree more
So sad as I go back through this thread again to read more reviews and notice so many “Rest in Peace” members

Did they manage to work Goring into the story somehow ? I know he has nothing to do with MvR , but why should that stop them?

Paul Forster, as far as I can recall, Göring does not appear as a character in the "Red Baron" film.
However, "Göring" is featured prominently in Roger Corman's 1971 "Von Richthofen and Brown" movie, where he is portrayed as a contemporary member of "Richthofen's squadron" and as the main villain, a counterpoint to Richthofen's attributes.
He also shows up, briefly in the "Young Indiana Jones" episode on the Lafayette Escadrille, the Red Baron, etc entitled "Attack of the Hawkmen." Again, he is portrayed as a member of Richthofen's squadron contemporary with MvR and Lothar.
Oh well...

I can't which film had a scene where a messenger bearing a strong resemblance to a 'certain little corporal' makes a brief appearance...
