New Roden 1/48 scale Puma engined DH4
Well, Ladies and Gents, it's finally here! Has anyone else been anticipating this as much as I have? I love these big, fast beasts! Now that this one's here, the American version and the DH9 series can't be too far behind. Just ordered mine and look forward to seeing some of these colorful schemes built up here.
Cheers,
Bud

Hey Albatros,
Yeah, the Puma is a Brit engine built by Siddeley, used in the DH9, a handful of Bristol F.2B and a few others. Underpowered compared to the Rolls-Royce Falcon. Externally, the radiator is egg-shaped when viewed from the front. Smaller at the top, larger at the bottom. Exhaust stack goes up over the wing instead of out the sides and down. The fuselage bulges a little around the scarf mount. Other than that, same huge wings and classic de Havilland tail. But the coolest thing about this kit are the colorful schemes available. Love it!

Another DH-4... meh. Probably won't buy this one. What I care about is when will they release their DH9....

If you're interested in the DH4A, I can reccomend the book 'Pioneer Airline Pilot' by Hayden K Lawford, which is about Captain EH Lawford AFC who flew the first aircraft passenger service in a DH4A, and also served in the RFC

hi Bud,
I din't actually know that the Puma engine was also used in the DH4, some Bristol F2b's and other aeroplanes. I guess a DH4 with a Puma engine would only differ from the DH9 with the location of the cockpits - closed together on the DH9 and seperated by the fuel tank on the DH4.
Cheers,
David.

I'd like to see the DH9 and DH9A by Roden
Not sure I'll pick up the Puma version but the DH9 and DH9A are different enough I'll buy both when they get released. Glad to see Roden is still issuing two-seaters and hope to see them tackle some of the early and late war German C types.
