Wood you...could you?

After having revisited the 1/48 scale Eduard Albatros D.III;

http://theaerodrome.com/forum/showth...&page=2&pp=108

I was asked by several people about the veneer and painted fuselages I displayed there. Most of these have been moved to the Rumaging thread;

http://theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20123

Also recently there was an excellent thread begun by Brad Cancian dealing with plywood surfaces for the interiors of the Alb. D.III interiors ;

http://theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20722

Here are detailed views of the painted plywood simulation on my 1/48 Eduard Alb. D.III. that was used for Voss' machine. Enjoy.

Stephen, I like the subtlety of the grain. Do you use Acrylics or Oils?

I use both acrylics and enamels.

Also folks if you want to do wood grain consider that in all cases the direction of the grain on all panels should be fore to aft. At least that is what all photos of Albatros fighters I have seen tells me and it makes sense too.

I posted some interior shots on Brad's thread to highlight interior dry brushing of the plywood areas.

Here is one of the early Eduard 1/48 Alb. D.III marked as 2015/16 in its captured markings. The wheels on the original airframe were replaced by asymetrical allied types (coned on the outer face but flat on the inner faces) used on Spad VII types in British hands (late Bleriot & Spad built.) The spokes under the cover are prominant on the outer face. The figure is the recent released JP figure altered to look like an allied pilot in a maternity tunic (under his top coat.)

Thanks to Microsculpt I have a great Voss head to go on the Heckler & Gros 1/48 figures. These will go with the Voss Albatros when mounted on a base.

Stephen, how did you reach Micro Sculpt? I sent a private message eons ago re the Mcudden figure he was working on. No reply! I would sure like to patronize someone of his talent, and I do plan to build a lot of 56sq. birds, including McCuddens.
