Airfield / Aerodrome size

Does anyone know if there was a 'minimum' size standard for forward airfields? I have seen a operating distance of 1250 feet mentioned in an early RNAS report. This suggests about 30 acres, assuming 1250 feet in every direction.

Many thanks
