In the few days I have been a member and a poster, I have mentioned gaming in 1/72 scale with models. I thought I would start a thread to talk a bit about this kind of gaming.
I also got a link listed for my favorite WW1 airwar game, Canvas Eagles. Everything you need to start is a free download from that site, including instructions for making the stands to put your favorite model on.
Gamers use primarily two scales, 1/72 and 1/144, the last one primarily available in metal miniatures. I like the 1/72 since it is a more visible medium. At a game convention last September, the game Aerodrome was played, and it drew a crowd, the only game to have a waiting list of folks hoping somebody didnt show up to pay. The host ran the game with some very nicely done 1/72 scale models, and you could watch folks start to walk by, look at the table and stop in their tracks.
While these games aren't "real time" like so many computer games, they can become real nail biters as you start trying to dogfight with limited fuel, weighing those maneuvers that take a bit more fuel to use. Some of these are things that non-gamers wouldnt think about, at least not from the little reading I have done. The stories of the aces and their dogfights dont often mention fuel, and only a few mention a limited amount of ammo having such an impact.
Take a look at the Canvas Eagles link in the Links area and see what you think. Might find a use for all those models haning around collecting dust. Man, what a game you could play with the larger scales!
