Question on thread size for 1/32 scale Rigging?

Hello all,

Wingnuts says I need 0.15mm size line for the rigging on my Albatros, but for the life of me, I cannot find this size in my search around the shops in my Town so far.The closest I've got is 0.16mm monofilament fishing line.

My question is, would this bit bigger size show up too much on the model and look out of scale, or would it be acceptable?

Cheers,
Jeff.

Jeff,

Just for fun, let's do the math here.

Most rigging on WW-1 German planes was around 1/4" to 3/8".
Or .25" to .375", approx.

Divide these by 32 and we get .0078" to .0117

On the other hand, .015" line times 32 gives us .48 or almost 1/2 inch.
.016 line scales out to .512 or just over 1/2 inch.

Both of these are a bit to big for accurate scale,
but, in models details look better if a tad too large
rather than too small.

In conclusion I think .016 line would look just fine on your 1/32 Albatros.

That's my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it.

Hi Jeff.

0.01mm difference would not even be noticed to the naked eye, you are talking minute sizes here, that size only equates to .32 of a mm in real terms. The line you have at 0.16mm is 5.12mm in real terms, the 0.15mm line is 4.8mm in full size, only a difference of .32mm.
Have no fear, your 0.16mm line will look perfectly OK.

Des.

Mike and Des, thanks a lot fellas!

Calculations are much appreciated, I didn't know what size the real cables were, plus Mathematics is not my strongest subject.

Good to know that size line I have should look fine.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Hello Jeff,
You won't go wrong with the fishing line pictured below. 0.12 is perfect for 32nd.
Good luck!

Thanks Bob,

I have some invisible thread that is 0.12mm, but thought it would have been way too small seeing as though Wingnuts says 0.15mm, thanks for the info!

Cheers,
Jeff.
