Question for the experts.

The early verson of the SPAD XIII had rounded wing tips. Was the wingspan less than the later squared wingtip span or were they the same?

I want to modify the DML 1/48 SPAD and don't know whether I can just round them off or do I have to do some surgery.

Thanks

Rick

My Gallery
Rfindley:
The original wingspan on the SPAD XIIIc1 was 8250 mm and the area was 21.11 sq. meters, with the rounded wing tips. With the redesigned wing with the square tips, the span was reduced to 8080 mm and the area was reduced to 20.2 sq. meters.

In the book "Spad fighters in action" I found the following data:

Spad VII C.1 with squared off wing tips = 25 feet 8 inches

Spad XIII C.1 with squared off wing tips = 26 feet 6 inches

Spad XIII with rounded wing tips = 1 foot 5 inches more than the Spad VII.

This results in a wingspan of 26 feet 13 inches (OK, I admit that the metric system makes more sense here).

This is a difference of 7 inches (about 18 cm) and in 1:48 scale the rounded wingtip Spad should have a 0,375 cm bigger wingspan altogether (if the data in the book are correct).

So the wingspan of the early and the late Spad XIII is "almost" identical.

Hope this helps a bit ...
