Problems with the junkers D1 search

When i first looked into this project i didt realize that it was going to be this tough to find good hard sources of information on this plane ( Hunkers D1 )
So far i have found several different model companies that make this aircraft
or something very close. ( all seem general in shape but have uncountable small differences from kit to kit) I have also found a few photos of some replicas floating around which are generally the same but also diff in many small ways. My goal is to build a large scale model but as of yet have not found a good source of plans or printed information (which seems to be scarce.)
i wish to thank all of the members that responded to my inquire, and if someone should find any more information on this plane please let me know.

thank you again

Wayne57,

A friendly suggestion. It might be easier for other Forumites to assist you if you could let us know what specific information about the D.I or models of it you still need.

Are you looking for plans of successful flying models of the D.I? If so, are Free Flight, Control Line, or Radio Control?

Or is it a plastic kit you are after?

Or are you looking for drawings or photos of the full-size plane to assist you in making your model more true to scale?

I wouldn't want to steer you toward plans for say a stick and tissue paper rubber powered model if your real goal is something totally different like a non-flying model with all corrugations faithfully reproduced.

I hope this helps.

Wayane The DI looks like it would be a neat Large Scale. I considered it myself as 1/4 scale RC. But I gave up when I dicovered there wasn't any pre-couragated sheet aluminum available.

What are your thoughts as to takle this problem of sheeting it ?

Photos of Original D.1

Wayne57,

Have you seen photos of the restored original D.I in France?

Do a search on the Junkers D.I here at the WWI Modeling Pages for some nice shots:

I think there has been some discussion on this Forum regarding the authenticity of the colors used in the restoration. You should be able to locate this discussion via the Forum's Search Feature.

D1 Photos

Wayne,
There is currently a great series of photos of the D1 posted at the
Newsgroup: alt.binaries.pictures.aviation.

I think the early Junkers fighters would make great modeling subjects if only there were a way to effectively simulate the corrugated skin.

Good luck!

Wayne,

It's not exactly what you're looking for, but Model Airplane news carries a 1/5 scale Junkers d-10 (2-seat version). Available at rcstore.com.
