The use of radio comms during flight while flying RB3D online is what made me quit. Absolutely ruined the immersion element which is one of the reasons I was there. It just made it feel like a WWII sim with biplanes.
I always thought it would be neat if the radio got used before flight, and then not during, until you got back. It would add to it greatly, but I know no one will do that.

OFF patch v1.2

Thanks for posting your info Axegrinder. One small point tho is that the new patch is v1.2. Warren, seems to me that I guy could choose to not use voice communication once airborn and just have that understood with the others. I can see your point.

Yes, Rickety, I could, the group I am with could. However, will the other side? I doubt it. Using radio comms has some very real tactical advantages that most will not give up.
My disappointment is my fault really. I used to really enjoy some of the truly quality groups and events I attended when I was doing reenacting and living history. We were into the immersion factor. I wanted the "immersion" of being in a WWI squadron in an online mission. Unfortunately, I do not think anyone else does. No matter, I haven't got time to deal with it right now with school.

I agree: using in-sortie voice comms while flying a WW1 sim is weak. Of course, I'm not saying it "shouldn't" be done--however people want to fly online is up to them. But I'd hold out for flying with/against like-minded individuals who'd fly without them. Throw in no externals, too--the "God view" kills stalking tactics.

Jim,
I'm with you. Do all your comms before take-off. No externals. When I: a) get out of school, b) get a new clip for my TrackIR, and c) get half-way decent with this sim I will think about searching some folks out. Right now, it crashes on me at the oddest moments, I can't figure it out, never consistent circumstances. Oh well, no time to deal with it now.

Crash, crash, crash.

Well, after having the sim crash for something like six times in a row, I took it off my PC, reinstalled CFS3, OFF P3, and the 1.2 patch. Set my graphics. Now the game won't even start. I get the title screen, and then I get "OFF Manager not responding". This has happened four times in a row now.
I tried to register at the official forum to get some advice, but it tells me that the administrator has banned my e-mail address. Everyone's time is valuable, but my time to actually play this thing comes very dear right now. I wasted an hour tonight that I should have probably spent doing something else.
I wish my wife had gotten me a good WWI aviation book now instead of this shiny DVD coaster. What a waste.

Warren D,

Go on over to the official OFF website and send them an email describing your problems (your time permitting, of course). I had a problem and rather than post it in the forum I just wrote them directly. Polovski wrote back very quickly and was most helpful in his response.

OVER FLANDERS FIELDS Support info here, then contact address at bottom.

I don't know if his e-mail would get through. He probably has an AOL or hotmail e-mail account. Spammers frequently use such accounts, because they are easy to get. OFF blocks them to prevent spamming.

Warren,

You might try e-mailing Polovski or Shredward through the Aerodrome forum:
  1. Use Advanced Search to find a recent post by one of them.
  2. Click on their name.
  3. Click e-mail on the drop down menu.

You're right, I do have a hotmail account, and spammers are the very reason I will not give them my personal e-mail account that I use for school, work, and family. I did that once, and got tons of nasty stuff in my inbox.
I just wanted to post my problem to the message board so a) I didn't bother them with something that, to them, is mundane, and b) they're pretty adamant on their website about not contacting them unless you have exhausted the FAQ's, etc. (Being a teacher I know what it is to give directions and then have people pay no attention to them whatsoever. )
If my choice of communicating with people I don't know from Adam's off ox is hotmail and they don't like it, well, so be it then. Sorry if I sound pissy guys, but I was really looking forward to flying a little OFF here and there as some stress relief. Much healthier than illegal drugs, prostitutes, etc. Thanks for your help and suggestions!

Warren
